Stephanie Therese Rochon-Moten

ROCHON-MOTEN, Stephanie Therese, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va. on June 3, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 50 years old. Born May 3, 1965 in Tacoma, Wash., Stephanie was raised in a military family. She traveled throughout the United States and overseas, specifically Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Germany, France, Austria and Holland.

In 1987, she graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., with a B.S. degree in broadcast journalism. Stephanie's news broadcast career started at WJBO Radio in Baton Rouge, La. as a radio announcer and weekend news reporter.

In 1989, she accepted a position as News Director for an AM/FM radio station in Lafayette, La. Stephanie's first television broadcast opportunity occurred in 1990, when she accepted a position as a general assignment reporter and weather anchor at FOX news station KVHP in Lake Charles, La. Stephanie moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in August 1991 and was hired as a news anchor for NBC affiliate KLSB. In February 1994 she accepted a position as a news reporter with FOX news station KTBC in Austin, Texas. While there, she was promoted from weekend anchor to main anchor.

On June 26, 1999 Stephanie married the love of her life, Jeffery D. Moten, and they moved to Richmond, Va., where she was hired as the main anchor by WTVR CBS 6. In addition to anchoring the CBS 6 evening newscasts, she reported on cancer awareness information through her breast cancer special reports titled "Buddy Check 6."

Stephanie was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she served as a Mass lector, member of the library committee, Master of Ceremonies for the annual Filipino Festival, weekly Bible study group member and lecturer for the confirmation classes. Stephanie was very active in the Richmond community and loved spending quality time with her family and friends, especially her two boys, Miles and Pierce. She was an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and the Richmond Chapter of the Links Inc.

Stephanie was a recipient of the American Cancer Society's Regional Media Award for her Buddy Check 6 news reports. She served as a board member for the Dr. Ellen Shaw de Paredes Breast Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to the early detection and cure of breast...

Family of Mrs. Stephanie T. Moten, I want to offer to you all my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. I recall her sweet memory of my mother when she was in Loreauville for Mrs. Dolores , her grandmother's passing; so sweet and genuine, and as beautiful as she was growing up and as beautiful as she was on her wedding day.
